During a severe weather event or emergency, we work closely with emergency management partners and respond in a coordinated effort to keep road users safe when travelling on the State Road Network.

Please visit TasALERT and the Tasmania Police community alerts page for the latest updates on severe weather and emergencies, including road closures, warnings and advice. For current weather conditions, visit the Bureau of Meteorology’s website .

Please remember to always drive to the conditions and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signage.

Reporting a hazard or emergency

To report an issue on the State Road Network that presents a real or potential risk to road users, please phone our 24/7 hotline on1300 139 933 (option 2). This call centre operates 365 days a year, even on Christmas Day.

Reports are logged in our system for prioritisation by our contractors.

In the event of an emergency or life-threatening situation, stop driving and call triple zero (000) for help.

How we respond to hazards or emergencies

Following a severe weather event, we will work with our contractors to assess any damage on the State Road Network and make sure the roads are safe to access as quickly as possible. This includes working with our contractors to:

  • clear debris on or around the road
  • place signage at locations where road users will need to be aware of a hazard
  • complete temporary repairs, such as pothole filling to make the road safe.

It’s important to note a lot of our work depends on temperature and moisture. If conditions are wet and cold, repairs to the road may not last. Sometimes our contractors will complete temporary repairs to make the road safe until we can return in the warmer months to make longer-lasting fixes.
