About the project
A program of upgrades has been identified for the Bass Highway between Cooee and Wynyard to increase traffic flow, improve safety, and extend the life of road infrastructure. It will be delivered between 2020 and 2026.
As a part of this program, we will be improving the road base on a 2.2km section of the Bass Highway at Wynyard between Mount Hicks Road and Old Bass Highway.
The work will improve the quality of the road, reduce ongoing maintenance costs, and increase safety.
Timing
We are currently developing a design for this road renewal work. Once this is completed, we will be in contact with landowners in this section of the Bass Highway to discuss road access and driveway impacts during construction. There will be no land acquisition for this project.
Construction is expected to begin on site in late 2026.
Funding
This stage of the project is funded by the Bass Highway – Cooee to Wynyard program. Since 2020, this program has delivered the replacement of the Cam River Bridge and the realignment of the Bass Highway between Somerset and Wynyard. The program aims to increase traffic flow, improve safety, and extend the life of road infrastructure between Cooee and Wynyard.
