Bass Highway - East of Heazlewood
We are strengthening bridges and roads around Tasmania to make sure they stay safe and efficient for heavy vehicles and the broader community.
We have identified a section of the Bass Highway that requires repair and strengthening works.
The site will cover 300m of the Bass Highway, East of Heazlewood.
Construction will happen at night to minimise traffic disruption. The road will be reduced to single lane with reduced speed limits in both directions and vehicles will be directed by automated traffic signals.
About six weeks after the work is complete, we will finalise works with resealing and line marking. We will do this work during the day as we need warmer conditions to do this work effectively.
Work will begin on Monday, 25 March 2024 and continue to Thursday, 28 March 2024, with working hours between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, weather permitting.
There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure workers and road users are safe, including lane closures and reduced speed limits. Road users should allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time during this work. Please follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs and keep to speed limits.
These works are being completed as part of FCUP, jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian governments.
FCUP supports the productivity of freight vehicles by improving the roads and bridges they travel on day to day. Repairing and strengthening these sections of road will:
