About the project

We are planning to upgrade the Bass Highway between Hellyer and Edgcumbe Beach.

These upgrades include:

  • installation of overtaking lanes and turning lanes
  • junction upgrades
  • improving the alignment
  • widening the highway at identified locations.

Adding new overtaking lanes in this section of the Bass Highway supports the Bass Highway Wynyard to Marrawah Corridor Strategy, which adds overtaking lanes between Wynyard and Smithton every 10 to 15 km.

This project forms part of a larger project to upgrade multiple sections along the Bass Highway between Wynyard to Marrawah, helping road users reach their destinations more safely and efficiently.

Timing

The project is currently in the detailed design phase, with construction expected to begin in late 2025.
