Bass Highway 2024 summer maintenance program

You may experience delays while travelling on the Bass Highway this summer as we are doing resurfacing works at a number of locations from January 2024 through to late March 2024.

These works involve resurfacing the road to improve the safety and experience for road users and must be completed during summer months when the weather is consistently warmer and drier.

Where possible, to minimise the disruption to road users, we will only have one site being resurfaced at a time on busier stretches between Burnie and Devonport, and between Latrobe and Launceston.

Please note that these works are very dependent on the weather, and so dates and times of works are subject to change. We will update this page with the most current information as it becomes available.

Traffic management and delays

Traffic changes will be in place at roadwork locations for the safety of workers and road users, and traffic may be stopped for a short period during resurfacing works.

You should allow for 15 minutes extra travel time when travelling through each of the roadwork sites. Please keep to the posted speed limits, follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs.

You may still experience a reduced speed limit when travelling through work sites for a short time after resurfacing works have finished, until linemarking can be completed.

Key:
Red – full road closure
Orange – reduced speed limit with possible lane closures
Green – reduced speed limit with no lane closures
Purple – unique traffic conditions

Longer term works

There will also be longer term works to resurface and rebuild sections of the Bass Highway during this period as part of our Freight Capacity Upgrade Program. These include the sites:

• Bass Highway, north of Emu Bay Road
• Bass Highway, south of Paramatta Creek
• Bass Highway, east of Heazlewood Lane Overpass.

More information about these works will be provided before they start, and will be featured on the Roadworks Map.
