Bass Highway North of Sassafras Upgrade
The Bass Highway North of Sassafras project is part of the Bass Highway Action Plan which is jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Governments.
About the project
The Bass Highway North of Sassafras project will improve safety and efficiency on the Bass Highway. The project aims to address the high-priority improvement opportunities identified for this location outlined in the Bass Highway Devonport to Launceston Corridor Strategy.
The existing road will be widened to include construction of a median with flexible safety barrier, which will:
- increase safety for road users, including a reduced risk of head-on crashes and provide an opportunity for safe overtaking
- improve efficiency and travel time reliability.
Timing
We are currently in the early field investigations phase of the project to inform design work which will be done in 2024.
