About the project
We will be resurfacing Cradle Mountain Road between the Cradle Mountain Interpretation Centre and Dove Lake.
Timing
We will be resurfacing Cradle Mountain Road between the Cradle Mountain Interpretation Centre and Dove Lake, from Monday, 16 February to Friday, 27 February 2026, weather permitting.
Traffic changes
Road closure
We will be working from Monday to Friday, starting Monday, 16 February until Friday, 27 February 2026, between 3:00 pm and 6:30 pm.
During this period, Cradle Mountain Road will be closed to all traffic (including shuttle buses) between the Cradle Mountain Interpretation Centre and Dove Lake during our working hours, 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm, Monday to Friday
During the closure, from 2:30 pm until 6:00 pm, the shuttle buses will only drive between the Visitor Centre and the Interpretation Centre to ensure visitors can still access the area.
During working hours, there will be no vehicle access on Cradle Mountain Road past the boom gate at the Interpretation Centre.
There will be no work on weekends, so the shuttle bus service will follow its regular February schedule for Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Normal vehicle access restrictions will apply on these days.
Information about vehicle access and the shuttle bus schedule is available on the Parks and Wildlife Service website here.
Accessing Dove Lake on foot
Visitors can still access Dove Lake when the road is closed by walking along the Cradle Valley boardwalk and Lake Lilla track. This walking route begins at the Interpretation Centre and ends at Dove Lake. Please note that the average time to walk this route is usually two to three hours.
