About the project

We will be repairing and strengthening the Leven River Bridge on the Bass Highway under the Tasmanian Government’s Freight Capacity Upgrade Program (FCUP).

Timing

We will be working from Wednesday, 25 February 2026 to Monday, 1 June 2026, between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Lane closures and a reduced speed limit will be in place for the duration of the project, including outside of working hours.

Please allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time, keep to speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.

About the Freight Capacity Upgrade Program

FCUP supports the productivity of freight vehicles by improving the roads and bridges they travel on day to day. Repairing and strengthening these sections of road will:

  • improve freight productivity
  • improve efficiency and network reliability
  • improve road safety for all road users
  • reduce maintenance costs.

Funding

The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have committed combined funding of $100 million towards the FCUP program.
