About the project

We will be completing maintenance on the Mersey River Bridge (Victoria Bridge), Devonport, to realign the bridge on its supports.

These works will ensure the bridge is well-maintained into the future and help traffic continue safely and reliably through the north of Tasmania.

The work will include:

  • installing new jacking brackets on the underside of the bridge - these are devices that will help move the bridge about 75 mm to the east, and permanently fixing it to the abutment
  • replacing the expansion joint in the roadway of the bridge deck at the eastern support
  • other repairs to the bearings at each bridge pier and both eastern and western supports.

Timing

We will be starting our preparation works on Monday, 13 May 2024, and at this point there will be no impact to traffic.

We will have short closures as the project progresses, and we will let the community know about them in advance. Please keep an eye on our website and Facebook page for updates.

The majority of the work will be under the bridge and won't be visible from the road. There will be short periods where we will be working both under and on top of the bridge.

We expect the works to be complete by the end of June 2024, weather permitting.
