Oakleigh Rail Underpass Barrier Upgrades
We are upgrading safety barriers to make roads safer for everyone.
We completed assessments at this site and found that the existing barriers should be replaced with barriers that are up to current standards.

We completed assessments at this site and found that the existing barriers should be replaced with barriers that are up to current standards.
We will be upgrading the safety barriers on both the Cooee-bound and Wivenhoe-bound rail underpasses on the Bass Highway, between Edwardes Street and Wilson Street, Burnie.
Before construction can begin, we will be carrying out preliminary survey work at this site.
This will take place from Tuesday, 10 March 2026 and Friday, 20 March 2026. We will be working between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm.
While work is taking place there will be a reduced speed limit and lane closures in place. One lane will be open in each direction at all times. Please allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time during this period.
Construction will begin on 13 April 2026 and is expected to be complete by 5 June 2026.

This project is funded by the Australian Government for approximately $1.5 million.
