About the project
We will be replacing street light poles on the Bass Highway near the Victoria Bridge in East Devonport in January 2026.
While this work is taking place, there will be closures of the highway ramps on the eastern side of Victoria Bridge connecting the Bass Highway with East Devonport. Devonport City Council have recommended detour routes for heavy vehicles.
Timing
We will be working from Monday, 19 January 2026 to Wednesday, 21 January 2026, and then again from Tuesday, 27 January 2026 to Wednesday, 28 January 2026. (Thursday, 22 January 2026 is also currently scheduled as a back-up day in case the work takes longer than anticipated).
On each of these dates, we will be working at night from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am to minimise the impact on local traffic and heavy vehicle movements.
Details of the closures and recommended detours
Monday, 19 January 2026

- We will be working at night from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.
- We will be working on the Latrobe-bound side of the Bass Highway in East Devonport near the Victoria Bridge. While the work is taking place, the off ramp to East Devonport (via Tarleton / Wright Street) will be closed.
- Heavy vehicles with a height greater than 4.9 metres can detour via Piping Lane / Torquay Road, or Port Sorell Road / Brooke Street.
- Heavy vehicles with an overall height of less than 5.0 metres can use the Port Sorell Road interchange to return on the Burnie-bound side of the Bass Highway (this is preferred as it will help reduce heavy vehicle movement through residential areas).
Tuesday, 20 January 2026 to Wednesday, 21 January 2026

- We will be working at night from 10:00 pm to 6:00 am on each night.
- We will be working on the Burnie-bound side of the Bass Highway in East Devonport, near the Victoria Bridge. While this work is taking place, both the on ramp and the off ramp connecting the Bass Highway with Bridge Road/Tarleton Street will be closed.
- Heavy vehicles leaving East Devonport / Ambleside can use the Port Sorell Road interchange to access the Burnie-bound side of the Bass Highway.
- Westbound traffic needing to access East Devonport will be able to cross the Victoria Bridge and exit via Formby Road, before returning on the Latrobe-bound side of the Bass Highway.
