Batman Bridge A-Frame Maintenance Painting
We are continuing to paint the Batman Bridge to maintain this iconic asset.
We began painting the Batman Bridge A-Frame over the River Tamar on Tuesday, 1 August 2023, working between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm from Monday to Saturday and should be finished in April 2024, weather permitting.
A swing stage has been set up so workers can continue painting the bridge.
We painted the Batman Bridge lower support beams in April 2022.
We will be continuing to paint between 7:00 am and 5:30 pm from Monday to Friday and should be finished by the end of April 2024, weather permitting.
There will be some temporary traffic changes to ensure workers and road users are safe.
Lane closures and a reduced speed limit will be in place during work hours and may affect travel times.
Please keep to speed limits, follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs, and allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time during this work.
No pedestrian access is allowed on the bridge during this work.

Painting the Batman Bridge is important maintenance which helps protect the bridge. The current paint coating needs to be removed and replaced with a new coating.
In April 2022, the underneath and lower support beams of the Batman Bridge were painted. We will now be painting the deck and support towers of the bridge to complete the painting.
Weather permitting, this painting maintenance should be finished by April 2024. This project will take time as there is a large surface area across different parts of the bridge that need maintenance, paint removal, and new painting.
Any waste water and debris will be contained for safe disposal off-site so there will be no negative effects on the environment.
