About the project
We are upgrading the West Tamar Highway intersection at Forest Road south in Trevallyn to improve road safety, traffic efficiency, network reliability and accessibility.
The project includes new traffic and pedestrian signals, upgrading the bus stop, modifications to the existing traffic islands and median, a new left-turn lane, pedestrian refuge, bicycle lane and shared-path connections.
Timing
We are working in stages from Monday, 17 August 2026 to Friday, 30 October 2026 between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, weather permitting.
August to September
From Monday, 17 August to early September 2026, we will begin low impact works on site. During this stage, there will be a reduced speed limit.
September to October
From early September to late October 2026, we will begin higher impact work at the intersection and on the lanes of the West Tamar Highway heading towards Riverside.
During this stage, road users entering and exiting Forest Road will need to take a short detour to join the West Tamar Highway.
This detour will only be in place during working hours. A reduced speed limit will remain throughout the project. Please allow up to 15 minutes’ extra travel time.

Impacts
Temporary changes will be made to some driveways and parking areas as work progresses. The project team will contact directly affected residents and landowners before the work begins to discuss access and parking arrangements.
Access will be maintained wherever possible, although short delays may occur near driveways. Please do not park within signed work areas and follow traffic controllers and signs.
Funding
The project forms part of the Australian and Tasmanian governments’ $22.5 million commitment to targeted upgrades along the West Tamar Highway between Exeter and Launceston.
