About the project
The Department of State Growth is reducing the load limit on Kings Bridge, Trevallyn, to 20 tonnes.
Heavy Vehicles over 20 tonnes must seek an alternate route, such as the West Tamar Highway.
A recent structural assessment found that a reduced load limit is required. This is a precautionary measure only to preserve the life of the bridge. The bridge remains safe for use.
We are investigating strengthening options that could lift the 20-tonne load limit. We will share this information with the community once confirmed.
Timing
The load limit will apply from Monday, 1 December 2025. There will be signs at the bridge to notify road users of the new load limit, in the event they are not aware prior to their journey.
Location
Kings Bridge is located on Bridge Road, Trevallyn, over the South Esk River. Kings Bridge is over a century old and is a recognisable historic landmark in the Launceston area.
