About the project
We are upgrading the Midland Highway, between Breadalbane and Kings Meadows Interchange (Launceston bound).
Timing
Work started on Monday, 17 November 2025 and is expected to be completed on Thursday, 12 March 2026, weather permitting.
Our working hours are Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm. There may be occasional work on Saturdays and Sundays if required.
Traffic impacts
There will be some temporary traffic changes throughout the project to ensure the safety of workers and road users.
Lane closures and a reduced speed limit will be in place during working hours and may affect travel times. Please keep to the posted speed limits, follow the directions of traffic controls and signs, and allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
Location

About the Freight Capacity Upgrade Program
The Australian and Tasmanian Governments have committed combined funding of $100 million to upgrade key freight routes under the Tasmanian Government’s Freight Capacity Upgrade Program (FCUP).
These works are being completed as part of FCUP, jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian governments.
FCUP supports the productivity of freight vehicles by improving the roads and bridges they travel on day to day. Repairing and strengthening these sections of road will:
- improve freight productivity
- improve efficiency and network reliability
- improve road safety for all road users
- reduce maintenance costs.
