Works on the Bruny Island Ferry Terminal Upgrade have recently been delayed due to complications with the arrival of infrastructure material.

Issues in the supply chain have caused a delay in the arrival of the material needed to fulfil the ramp design requirements.

Once the remaining materials have arrived on-site, the contractor will install them and finalise construction. The current completion date is scheduled for late May 2024.

These delays will have no impact on the current services as the ferry will operate to its usual timetables throughout construction.

1About the project

Operational capacity will be increased through the construction of a second ferry berth with dual lane loading ramps at both the Kettering and Roberts Point ferry terminals. The new “Berth 2” will be serviced by the two new ferries recently procured by SeaLink.

The existing road will be extended to the new berth and new line marking will direct pedestrians and vehicles at both terminals, which will reduce queuing and improve pedestrian safety.

A phased approach to construction will ensure the upgrade can be achieved with minimal disruption to the current ferry service and ensure the emergency vessel berth located at Roberts Point can remain in service at all times during construction.

2Completed works

We have completed the following works:

  • New ferry abutments at Kettering and Roberts Point ferry terminals.
  • New road infrastructure approaching the terminals at Kettering and Roberts Point.
  • New fendering to protect berthing vessels and gantry support structures in preparation for the new ramps.

3Current works

This stage of the project involves the fabrication and installation of new ramps, gantry and associated mechanical and electrical components at Kettering and Roberts Point.

The new ramps are currently being fabricated off site. The installation of the ramps and other components are expected to happen in late May 2024.

We will provide further information to the community ahead of further works.
