About the project

This project is part of the Kingston Congestion Package (a Kingston-specific initiative of the Hobart City Deal). In 2023, a bus stop audit and stakeholder consultation was completed. As a result, 50 bus stops were selected to be upgraded based on their usage and location.

From this audit of 90 stops, 17 priority bus stops in the Kingborough municipality were selected to be upgraded in the first stage of the project. Consideration was also given to feedback received from Metro Tasmania and Kingborough Council.

To comply with accessibility standards as defined in the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA), compliance and accessibility were assessed at each stop and recommendations for improvement were made.

The first two stages of the project have now been completed, with 37 priority bus stops now upgraded in the Kingston area.

Stage 3 of the project will deliver 52 more bus stops.

The project is delivering:

  • improved comfort and safety of passengers waiting to board public transport
  • improved accessibility by upgrading the bus stops to be DDA compliant.
