Nicholls Rivulet Main Road – Slope Stabilisation Project
This project involves securing a 120-metre bank of earth on the southern side of Nicholls Rivulet Main Road, Nicholls Rivulet, to improve safety.
The main aim of this project is to improve safety for all road users by securing the slopes on the side of the road and stopping loose rocks from falling onto the road.
The stabilisation will be done by placing mesh screening over the slope and drilling anchors along the top and bottom of the slope to support the screening.
Due to challenging conditions at the site of the works, we completed the work in two phases.
Following the completion of the stage 2 works, the slope stabilisation of Nicholls Rivulet Main Road has been completed. This work included the placement of mesh screening over the slope and drilling of anchors along the top and bottom of the slope to support the screening.
Community members affected by this project received a notification letter or a phone call with the details of the works.
Phase 1 required a full day-time road closure of Nicholls Rivulet Road for two weeks, with works happening from 15 January 2024 through to 25 January 2024.
The closure was in place during the day from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, with the traffic barriers removed at the end of every shift so road users could still access the road on a single lane outside our work hours.
Phase 2 was from 27 January 2024 through to 23 February 2024. During this phase, the bottom anchors and remaining mesh screening were installed.
This project is funded by the Tasmanian Government.
