About the project
Upgrades have been completed on road barriers at six locations along Olivers Road, between Mersey Forest Road and Cethana Road.
This route is a social and commercial connection for the communities of Liena, Cethana, and Gowrie Park, as well as a key corridor for businesses and tourists.
Modern safety barriers have replaced the outdated post-and-cable fencing that no longer meets Australian Safety Standards. These upgrades will improve the safety of the road for all users.
The barries on the approaches to the Mersey River bridge have also been upgraded
How were the sites identified?
In 2023, a road safety audit by the department under the Black Spot Program identified that sections of post-and-cable fencing along Olivers Tourist Road, while enhancing delineation, no longer meet current Australian Safety Standards due to their age and outdated design.
Timing
Work began on Monday, 5 January and was completed on Friday, 13 February 2026.
