1About the South East Traffic Solution

This upgrade on the Arthur Highway is part of a planned suite of projects, known as the South-East Traffic Solutions, to upgrade the Tasman Highway between the Airport and Sorell and Arthur Highway south of Iron Creek Bridge in south-east Tasmania.

These projects will ensure safer and more reliable travel in south-east Tasmania for locals and visitors alike.

2About the project

Work started on the new overtaking lane in October 2019, and finished in late February 2020.

The project included:

  • A 500 metre southeast bound overtaking lane.
  • Separate turn lanes for the Valleyfield Road and Schofield Drive junctions.
  • Safer school bus stop locations and U-turn facilities in Valleyfield Road and Schofield Drive.

The U-turn and safe bus stop locations will be a safe place for buses to pick up and drop off passengers. They will help us meet the current and future needs of the community.

This project will improve safety on the highway. It will reduce delays and driver frustration by increasing overtaking opportunities
