View the Tasmanian 21m Truck and Dog Trailer (over 50t) Network

This Class 3 network shows roads mapped in three categories: Approved (green), Conditionally Approved (orange) and Restricted (red). Click on a route or bridge to show any conditions that apply.

The network shows roads which can be accessed by Class 3 truck and dog trailer combinations which do not exceed 21m overall length which operate in excess of 50t gross mass and comply with the Tasmania Class 3 Truck and Dog Trailer Combination Mass and Dimension Exemption Notice 2024.

Maximum dimension and masses for this network are:

  • overall length 21m, (increased to 21.3m if a log carrying vehicle fitted with a rear log guard),
  • overall height 4.3m,
  • single axles and any twin steer axle group - prescribed mass limits,
  • tandem axle groups 16.5t for vehicles not enrolled in mass management accreditation (MMA) (increased to 17.0t with MMA),
  • gross mass not exceeding the sum of axle group masses, and as determined by section 11 of the Notice.

Note - mass limits relating to axle spacing will determine the maximum vehicle mass available, and this may restrict the overall mass below the upper limits available through the notice for truck and dog trailer combinations operating with different axle spacings or longer overall length.

Restricted structures (red dots) must not be crossed.

Roads not shown as approved (green) or conditionally approved (orange) require road manager approval for access by permit. Application for access by permit is to be made through the NHVR. It is permitted to travel off route if the road is marked with detour signage.

Operators must check for road closures and road conditions prior to travel to ensure clear passage. For roads managed by Department of State Growth this information is available on the Department of State Growth website and by selecting the “Road Works – State Growth” button from the “Map Layers” button on this map.
