Operators often need to transport equipment and items that will cause the vehicle and load to exceed the prescribed general mass and/or dimensions limits. For the purpose of transportation on a road in Tasmania, these items are single (indivisible) items relating to mass. There may be multiple items relating to dimensions providing the extra item/s does not cause a further dimension to be breached.
An oversize/overmass load escort is the process of moving a vehicle and load that is exempted by permit, along a nominated route with as little inconvenience to other motorists as possible and with the safety of all people in the vicinity of the vehicle and load as a priority.
Authorised Officers when involved, will give such direction to the drivers within the convoy to ensure the exemption is fully complied with.
