Important information about COVID-19 health and safety practices to keep you and our staff safe.

You MUST disclose if you:

  • are feeling unwell
  • have been in contact with someone who has COVID 19 in the last 7 days

Current safety practices for an assessment:

  • You may wear a mask. Masks will be provided by the Department of State Growth
  • You MUST use the hand sanitiser stations and adhere to social distancing requirements at all times when outside the vehicle
  • Your vehicle MUST be of a high standard of cleanliness
  • Your vehicle will be sanitised prior to the start of your assessment
  • Only bring your supervisory driver with you, others will be turned away
  • We cannot proceed if we believe you are sick or unwilling to comply with the safety practices.

External service providers will have their own COVID health and safety practices.

How do I book an assessment?

Book either online or in person for an assessment with a Government Assessor.

For P1 driving assessments you can book directly with an Authorised P1 Driving Assessor (PDF 106.9 KB).

NOTE:

  • Fees and services vary, check before you book.
  • You cannot undertake your P1 driving assessment with an Authorised P1 Driving Assessor that has provided you with instruction during your L2 licensing stage.

Where can I go for my P1 assessment?

All drivers can undertake a P1 driving assessment at:

Hobart, Launceston, Burnie or Devonport  with a government or Authorised P1 Driving Assessor

or with an Authorised P1 Driving Assessor at:

Bellerive, Glenorchy, Kingston, South Launceston, Newstead or East Devonport

Drivers that live in a rural area can undertake their P1 driving assessment at the following locations:

What are Authorised P1 Driving Assessors?

Authorised P1 Driving Assessors (PDF 106.9 KB) are assessors that have been authorised by the Department to undertake P1 driving assessments in the private sector.

How much will it cost?

There is a set fee for all driving assessments – Assessment fees.

Authorised P1 Driving Assessors may charge additional fees. Fees and services vary, check before you book.

Where can I sit the Hazard Perception Test (HPT)?

The Hazard Perception Test is available on Plates Plus. You can use the same ID you used to complete the Plates Plus course. Otherwise, you can visit Service Tasmania to obtain your ID and instructions on accessing the HPT.

Do I need to sit the HPT before booking a practical driving assessment?

Please visit Plates Plus to confirm if you will need to pass the HPT. If you are required to pass the HPT, you will be unable to book your driving assessment until you have done so.
