Speed limits are set and enforced in Tasmania to keep everyone safe, whether you drive, ride, wheel or walk.
Speed limits are the maximum speed you’re allowed to travel. They are not a target – you don’t have to drive at that speed.
Sometimes you should go lower than the speed limit, depending on things like:
- the weather
- how busy the road is
- whether it’s day or night.
The Commissioner for Transport sets speed limits to help make journeys safer and more reliable.
