The Introduction of Taxi Cap - Parent

The start of a capped limit Taxi Smartcards has been delayed.

The Department of State Growth will send a letter when your child’s capped limit has started.

When your child next takes a taxi:

• the driver may give a taxi fare receipt which shows the word “CAP”

• there will not be a number next to the word “CAP” because the capped limited has not started

• the taxi fare receipt will also show the word “USED”. Next to this it will show how much fare subsidy your child has used on all their taxi trips this year.

• My child can keep their Taxi Smartcard whilst they remain eligible for taxi subsidies.

• My child can keep using their Taxi Smartcard without a capped limit until they get a letter to say their capped limit has started.

• My child can ignore the word “CAP” on a taxi fare receipt for now.

• My child will get a letter from the Department of State Growth when there is a capped limit on their Taxi Smartcard.

• My child cannot use their Taxi Smartcard at the same time as they use transport funding from their NDIS plan.

Yes.  Through my child’s TAS membership my child is still entitled to:

• an Australian disability parking permit
• vehicle registration concessions.

The changes in this fact sheet only affect NDIS participants who have a Taxi Smartcard.

• Be ready to talk to the NDIA about the transport needs for my child at their next plan review.
• I can ask an advocate or service provider for help to talk with the NDIA.
