You will need to register your vehicle in the state or territory you move to. You should check with the relevant registering authority to see how long you have to register in their jurisdiction and what the process is.

If cancelling your Tasmanian registration, you may be able to apply for a refund of the remaining registration components MAIB and Motor tax.

When you register the vehicle in another state or territory you will need to:

  • Surrender your Tasmanian number plates at the relevant transport authority in the state or territory and,
  • Provide the plate surrender receipt for your Tasmanian number plates and email to tes@stategrowth.tas.gov.au with photo identification and current Postal address.
