Special purpose vehicle registration

Vehicles will need special registration if:

they are over 4.5t Gross Vehicle Mass
they are made for a special purpose, this may be:
- lifting
- moving
- compressing
- rolling
their main use does not involve moving goods
they need to travel between worksites.

1How do I apply for special purpose registration?

Make a booking to have your vehicle inspected at an Approved Inspection Station (AIS)
1. plant-based vehicles do not need an inspection (refer to the form for more information).
If your vehicle passes inspection, complete a Special Purpose Vehicle over 4.5T Classification Report (MR102)
Submit this at Service Tasmania with:
1. your proof of entitlement
2. evidence of identity.

2What will I receive?

A red and yellow “WV” plate.
A certificate of registration.
