1. Which vehicles are eligible for seasonal registration?

Seasonal registration is available to vehicles that are:

  • Heavy vehicles (over 4.5 GVM or ATM),
    • used for agriculture tasks and horticulture tasks (such as farming, soil cultivation for growing crops, and the rearing of animals for food, wool, and other products), or
    • manufactured exclusively for over-snow operation, and
  • Used on a seasonal basis and only require registration for 3 or 6 months in a year.

2. How do I apply?

To apply for seasonal registration, you will need to:

  1. Visit Service Tasmania with the completed ‘Seasonal Registration form MR173 (DOCX 45.5 KB)’.
  2. If not currently registered, you will also need to take the required documents to register the vehicle.

3. Do I need to apply for each renewal period?

You only need to apply once, and seasonal registration is applied to the registration ongoing.

4. How do I renew my seasonally registered vehicle?

A renewal notice is not sent for vehicles with seasonal registration. You must visit Service Tasmania to renew registration.

5. Why can’t I renew a seasonally registered vehicle online?

For a vehicle without seasonal registration applied, a registration renewal notice is sent with the fees required for the proceeding 3 or 6 months.

As a vehicle with seasonal registration can be unregistered for up to 12 months, the department does not know of the period in which your vehicle will remain unregistered in the off-season. This means a registration renewal notice with the applicable registration fees is unable to be provided and the registration is to be renewed in person at Service Tasmania.

6. How do I remove seasonal registration?

You can request that seasonal registration be removed from your vehicle by visiting Service Tasmania. There are no forms required for this.
