A program of upgrades has been identified for the Bass Highway between Cooee and Wynyard.
We identified a program of upgrades for the Bass Highway between Cooee and Wynyard as part of the Cooee to Wynyard Planning Study.
This program will increase traffic flow, improve safety, and extend the life of road infrastructure. It will be delivered between 2020 and 2026.
The replacement of the Cam River Bridge and realignment of the Bass Highway between Somerset and Wynyard have been completed. The next project in this program will be the addition of pedestrian crossings on the Bass Highway between Cooee and Wynyard. This project is expected to start in April 2026.
We will work closely with Waratah-Wynyard Council and Burnie City Councils to ensure connection and coordination with other projects in the area.
The road projects in the program will include provision for cycling infrastructure. This is part of our policy to support a shift to more sustainable transport modes.
The program includes the below package of works:
Traffic flow improvements
Safety improvements
Asset reliability improvements
