This project improved the safety of the section of road near Bagdad.

Works included a central turning lane through Bagdad, a median with flexible safety barrier in the 100 km/h section north of Bagdad, dedicated turn lanes, wider sealed shoulders, removal of roadside hazards, and a footpath with crossing facilities.

Works started in early 2016, and the project was completed in April 2017.
