Midland Highway Action Plan
The Midland Highway Action Plan will upgrade the highway and improve road safety.
The Midland Highway Action Plan will upgrade the highway and improve road safety.
This transformative $565 million plan started construction in 2015, with the goal of improving road safety and minimising the number of crashes on this important route between Hobart and Launceston.
Since the program started, 143 kilometres of the highway have been upgraded, delivering safer, more efficient journeys for all road users and ensuring a consistent minimum 3-star AusRAP safety rating along the route.
Safety upgrades include the installation of a flexible safety barrier to reduce the number of head-on crashes, as well as road widening, extending sealed shoulders, and building additional overtaking lanes.
