1. Definitions

Light vehicle: Vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) up to and including 4500kgs.

Heavy vehicle: Vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) over 4500 kgs.

Adaptive Controls: Adaptive controls are specific modifications to assist people with disabilities drive a vehicle, not dual control vehicles. Adaptive control modifications exclude passenger side and passenger operated driver controls.

Individually Constructed Vehicle (ICV): An Individually Constructed Vehicle (ICV) is any vehicle that is not a production vehicle and will be used only for personal use; a production vehicle is defined as a vehicle manufactured or marketed in volume for normal road use.

Australian Design Rules (ADRs): The Australian Design Rules (ADRs) are national standards for vehicle safety, anti–theft and emissions. The ADRs are generally performance based and cover issues such as occupant protection, structures, lighting, noise, engine exhaust emissions, braking and a range of miscellaneous items.
