General information
An AVC is a nominated employee or contractor of an AVCAIS who has been authorised by the RMV to certify vehicle modifications within a specific range, determined by the qualifications and experience of the individual.
Their role is to inspect vehicles:
- identify all modifications requiring certification,
- assess the modifications against relevant vehicle standards, and
- subject to compliance with all relevant vehicle standards, certify the modifications.
AVC are also required to advise their client regarding of any compliance issues relating to proposed modifications, or specifically identified modifications. The inspection process can occur multiple times before a vehicle gains certification. AVC's must ensure they have sufficient evidence to support their certification of the completed modifications and the vehicles continued compliance.
Applicants are required to meet the qualifications and experience requirements as stipulated in the VMCM.

Required supporting documentation
- a National Police Certificate for the nominee (no older than 90 days).
- Must be original or certified copy.
- If the document is a certified copy, all pages must be submitted, back and front and EACH page must be certified.
- Copies of certificates for qualifications.
- Passport photo.
- Sample signature.
Next steps
Desktop assessment
For applicants who are or have been a part of a scheme administered by the Accreditation AIS team, a desktop assessment of works will be undertaken and a summary provided to the Registrar to support the recommended decision.
A desktop assessment can include (but is not limited to) an audit of previous:
- certifications,
- structural inspections and/or,
- inspection reports.
Checks will also be conducted into any substantiated scheme breaches and any matters at have been recorded as unresolved or on going.
A summary of findings will be provided to The Registrar along with the application for a final decision
Applicants will be notified via email of the progress of their application.
