Guidelines for Transfer of Vehicle Registration
Do I need to complete any paperwork?
Yes. Anyone who has acquired a motor vehicle must complete the Application to Transfer and anyone who has sold a vehicle must complete the Application to Dispose. Both these forms are on the reverse side of the Certificate of Registration or available above. The seller and buyer may choose to complete the disposal and or transfer online.
How much money will I have to pay?
If you notify the Registrar of the sale of your vehicle you will not be required to pay any fees. However if you are transferring a vehicle into your name you will be required to pay a transfer fee and a duty charge.

How long do I have to transfer the vehicle?
The new registered operator (BUYER) must transfer the registration of the vehicle into their name within 14 days of taking on responsibility.
What are the penalties for not paying on time?
If the vehicle is not transferred within 14 days, you are committing an offence that may result in a fine and a penalty of up to twice the initial duty charge.
How long do I have to notify the Registrar of the sale of my vehicle?
If you have just sold or given your vehicle to someone, you are required to notify the Registrar of Motor Vehicles within 7 days. There is no fee involved.

What will happen if I fail to notify the Registrar within 7 days?
Until you notify the Registrar of the sale of your vehicle you will remain legally responsible and may be held liable for any camera detected or other offences.
