About the project

The junction upgrade sites identified in this program of works are:

1Frankford Main Road/Chapel Road, Harford – remodel junction

This project involves changing the junction to a conventional T-junction, incorporating a basic right turn facility from Chapel Road onto Frankford Main Road.

All directly impacted landowners have been consulted on the design.

The design is now complete with construction expected to start in 2024, subject to funding.

2Midland Highway (High Street) / Lake Leake Road (Montagu Street), Campbell Town – right turn lane

This project involves widening High Street in Campbell Town to accommodate a dedicated right turn lane into Montagu Street.

All directly impacted landowners have been consulted on the design and the design is now complete.

This project is postponed from the current round of projects in the Road Safety Program funded by the Australian Government due to funding.

The construction of the project may be rescheduled to future financial years should it be deemed a priority.

3Gordon River Road/Glenora Road, Bushy Park – right turn lane

We have widened a section of Gordon River Road and added a new turning lane, making it safer for vehicles to turn right into Glenora Road at Bushy Park. This project was completed in mid- December 2022.

4Pipers River Road/Waddles Road, Karoola – remodel junction

This project will improve the curve on Pipers River Road, with a basic right turn facility added at the Waddles Road junction.

All directly impacted landowners have been consulted and the design is complete.

Construction is expected to start in 2024, subject to funding.

The shoulder sealing sites identified in this program of works are:

5Lyell Highway - Hamilton to Ouse

The project involves sealing a 1 metre wide road shoulder on the Lyell Highway for 14 kilometres between Hamilton and Ouse.

This project is postponed from the current round of projects in the Road Safety Program funded by the Australian Government due to funding.

The construction of the project may be rescheduled to future financial years should it be deemed a priority.

6Sheffield Main Road - South Spreyton to Sheffield

Given the high percentage of heavy vehicles using Sheffield Road, the shoulder will be widened from 0.5 metres to 1 metre, with 3 metre wide lanes in each direction.

Basic right turn upgrades, which allow straight-ahead vehicles to negotiate past vehicles waiting to turn right into the side road, are to be provided at:

*              Fairview Court

*              Scott’s Court

*              Winifred Avenue

*              James Road

*              Melrose Road / Gillam’s Road

*              Lower Barrington Road

*              Allison’s Road

*              Morey’s Road

*              Weeks Road

*              Dalwood Road

*              Barrington Road (south)

*              Hamptons Road / Hughes Road

This project is currently in the design phase. The first section between Coles Road and Reeves Road is planned for construction to start in 2024, subject to funding.

Site investigation works are still carried out on a regular basis which will help inform the final design of the project.

During investigations, we will be working Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

7Tasman Highway, Between Esk MR and Diana’s Basin

Given the high percentage of heavy vehicles using the Tasman Highway, the shoulder will be widened from 0.5 metres to 1 metre, with 3 metre wide lanes in each direction.

This project is currently in the design phase. The first section between Basin Creek Road and Stieglitz Track is planned for construction to start in 2024, subject to funding.

Site investigation works are still carried out on a regular basis which will help inform the final design of the project.

During investigations, we will be working Monday to Friday between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.

8Bridport Main Road - Freight and Safety Improvements

The Department of State Growth is investigating options for freight traffic and safety improvements on Bridport Main Road between Bridport and Bell Bay.

The project will help us identify a priority list of safety and freight focussed upgrades that will bring immediate benefit to all road users.

The Australian and Tasmanian governments have committed combined funding of $20 million for the project.
