The Transport Commission periodically reviews and updates the requirements for Security Camera Systems, to ensure equipment remains reliable and fit for purpose.
New requirements governing security cameras commenced on 26 June 2023 and have been published in the Tasmanian Taxi and On-Demand Passenger Transport Service Security Camera Requirements 2023 (Security Camera Requirements 2023).
Security Camera Systems installed in taxis in Tasmania after 26 June 2023 must be compliant and remain compliant with the Security Camera Requirements 2023 (PDF 372.7 KB).
The only exception to this is for an Existing Security Camera System of a type that remains approved under the Previous Security Camera System Specifications.
A list of approved Existing Security Camera Systems is available.
If a taxi Security Camera System does not appear on the list of approved Existing Security Camera Systems, then it must comply with the Security Camera Requirements 2023 (PDF 372.7 KB).
