An online application is the fastest way to apply and receive a student bus pass for free travel.
A parent or guardian receiving the Family Tax Benefit, with the dependant listed, must be the applicant if their concession information is being used.
If you do not have access to the internet, please ask the student’s school to help you submit the application.
Alternatively, please visit a Service Tasmania Centre to request a paper application and to submit the application.
If the student is 16 and over and has their own concession card, they should be the applicant and complete the application.
Do not use the online application if the student:
- is aged under 16 and holds their own concession card, a paper application must be used. Refer to Under 16 Concession Card Holder page for further information.
- is already 18 at 1 January of the year of study. Refer to Special Circumstances page for further information.
Please note a paper application will incur a longer processing time.

Help
If you have difficulty applying:
- check that you meet the eligibility requirements for a student bus pass
- An applicant who provides their concession information on behalf of a dependent must have that dependent listed on their concession card and must be the same parent or guardian who receives the Family Taxi Benefit for that dependent
- if the student is 16 and over and has their own concession card, they should be the applicant and complete the application
- request a paper application if using an Under 16 concession card
- request a paper application if applying for under Special Circumstances
- wait until after 4am if you are applying after midnight on weekdays or after 8pm on weekends
- this is because your eligibility will be checked with Services Australia (Centrelink), which is not available between midnight and 4am on weekdays and 8pm and 4am on weekends.
